Naust Paa Aure by TYIN Tegnestue

A project based on tradition and sense of place

Strips of glazing wrap around this Timber
water side house in Aure, Norway.
The building is made up from materials
salvaged from a dilapidated boat house
on the house and new grey patinated pine
(created using norwegian pine and impregnating
it with a by-product from the sugar cane industry,
which will give grey
patina.)

Flaps in the side can be opened up to link
the interior to the outside deck.
The simplicity of its shape
is enhanced by the seamless materiality.
Windows from the clients farmhouse were
also reused.

"The great thing about being an architect is
that you can walk into your dreams"

Harold E. Wagoner
1986

The Marylebone project
is now complete
after 2 years the university
now enjoys a brand new learning
platform and many improved facilities.
Having been involved in the selection of
finishes and detailing of the project it is great
to see the final outcome.

 Fogo Islands_Saunders Architects

Norway based studio designed a series of 6 artist
studios in various locations on the Fogo Islands in Canada.
Measuring 120m2 the design of the "long studio" represents
transitions of the seasons "the entrance of the structure consists
of an open but covered space which represents the spring and the beginning of the seasonal activity. the single stretch of whitewashed patio space leads to an exposed central area which encourages outdoor habitation during the summer days. the final and main body of the studio is a fully enclosed space that looks out towards the sea. large windows at either end and a skylight provides natural light to flood the interior. a one meter thick wall located on the south side houses storage, toilets and washbasins, with doors that are flush to the wall, minimizing any visual distraction within the space.

UNAVAILIBILITY_Gartnerfuglen
A mobile fisherman’s hut with walls of ice, where a single inhabitant can isolate themselves from modern technology.
An expectation that climbing plants
will grow up the wire mesh walls in the summer months
Built entirely with nature
Can be put up in 30 seconds by two small people
It is foldable therefore easily transported and relocated.
Ice panels function as a skin against the harsh winter winds, creating a pocket of heated air and tranquillity. At night when lit by a candle, the ice fishing
shanty lights up like a lantern.

CARMODY GROARKE_UNDERGROUND SPA
Location: Limerick, Ireland
A place for excercise and relaxation beneath the
19th Century mansion.
Materiality: A sculptural mix of stone water and plaster.

"A space to be discovered underground, and of entirely different character to the house above."

THE BLACK LODGE

Designed by Stockholm architects Jagnefalt Milton

The Black Lodges will be made up of wooden walls that fold open so that guests can become exposed to the elements as much or as little as they prefer.
Constructed from pine, sourced from the surrounding woodland.
The only furniture besides a stool, is a wooden board that can act both as a table, a bench and a bed. All four walls can be opened into the grass creating more of a camp fire situation where you can watch the stars and moon through the oculus.
The architects were able to push the simplicity of the project knowing they had the amenities of the neighbouring luxury hotel situated in an old quarry

The Moses Bridge
RO&AD ARchitecten-The Netherlands
Made from Acoya wood
waterproofed with EPDM foil
"It is, of course, highly improper to build bridges across the moats of defense works, especially on the side of the fortress the enemy was expected to appear on. That’s why we designed an invisible bridge."
